Medical Microneedling
At Royal Laser Centre, we focus on treatments that deliver real, visible results while prioritizing skin health and safety. Microneedling is one of our most effective skin-renewal treatments because it works with the skin’s natural healing process to improve overall tone, texture, and firmness. By creating controlled micro-channels in the skin, this treatment supports collagen and elastin production, helping the skin look smoother, healthier, and more radiant over time.
WHY WE RECOMMEND MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and can be customized to address individual concerns. It is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scarring, fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and stretch marks. A consultation is recommended to determine if this treatment is right for your skin and goals.
WHO IS MICRONEEDLING FOR?
This treatment uses a precision microneedling device to create tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-channels stimulate the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging new collagen and elastin formation. As the skin renews, texture becomes smoother and the complexion appears more even and refreshed.
HOW MICRONEEDLING WORKS?
For optimal results, a series of treatments may be recommended based on your skin goals. Many clients notice an initial glow and smoother texture within the first week, with continued improvements over time as collagen production increases. Temporary redness, mild sensitivity, and light swelling are normal and typically resolve within a short period.

A microneedling treatment typically takes 45–75 minutes, depending on the treatment area and any add-ons selected.
-
Immediately after your treatment, your skin will appear red and feel warm or sensitive, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. This is a normal response and a sign that your skin’s natural healing process has begun.
Redness and sensitivity typically subside within 24–72 hours, but for deeper treatments (such as when treating acne scars or deeper concerns), redness and visible healing may last up to 5 days or longer, depending on treatment depth and your individual healing response.
During this time, your skin may feel tight or dry, and you may experience mild swelling in certain areas. We recommend planning your schedule accordingly, as you may prefer to avoid work, social events, or important commitments immediately after treatment, especially if visible redness is a concern for you.
Your full aftercare instructions will be provided to help support proper healing and optimize your results.
-
While individual results vary, we generally recommend a series of 6 microneedling sessions for best results, especially for concerns such as acne scarring, texture, and overall skin rejuvenation. Your exact treatment plan will be personalized based on your skin goals and how your skin responds to treatment.
-
Yes, microneedling can be combined with microdermabrasion or dermaplaning for enhanced exfoliation, as well as LED light therapy and HydroFacial when appropriate. It may also be combined with BioRePeel chemical peels from the second treatment onward, depending on your skin’s suitability.
All treatment combinations are assessed during your consultation to ensure safety and optimal results.
-
After numbing is applied, microdermabrasion is used to help clean out congested pores and blackheads, particularly in common areas such as the nose, cheeks, and chin. This helps create a cleaner treatment surface, allowing microneedling to be performed more effectively. Treating the skin when the pores are clearer can help improve overall texture and the appearance of enlarged pores for smoother, more refined-looking results.
-
We recommend scheduling microneedling 3–4 weeks before a major event to allow time for redness to subside and for your skin to begin the collagen renewal process.
-
Preparation instructions will be included in your appointment confirmation email. Please review the service-specific notes prior to your appointment. In general, avoid retinoids, exfoliants, and active treatments for 5-7 days before your session unless otherwise directed.
-
After microneedling, avoid makeup, active skincare, heat, and intense exercise for 2-4 days (or as advised). Keep your skin clean, hydrated, and protected with broad-spectrum SPF starting on day 3, reapplying every 2h when exposed to the sun or daylight. Follow your personalized aftercare instructions for best results.
-
We use a medical-grade numbing cream that is more effective than standard over-the-counter 5% numbing creams. This stronger formulation provides deeper, longer-lasting comfort during treatments such as Microneedling, especially when working on more sensitive areas or deeper concerns. The additional fee reflects the higher quality of the product used and helps ensure a more comfortable experience throughout your treatment.
-
Microneedling can be suitable for many skin types and all skin tones when performed correctly and with proper settings. During your consultation, we will assess your skin to determine if microneedling is appropriate for you.
-
We recommend allowing your skin time to heal and for the micro-channels to close before applying sunscreen. SPF can typically be resumed on Day 3 post-treatment. Until then, it’s important to avoid direct and indirect sun exposure, as UV rays can penetrate even on cloudy days or through windows. During the initial healing period, we strongly advise limiting sun exposure and staying in shaded or indoor environments as much as possible to protect your skin.
-
Mild pinpoint bleeding can occur during microneedling, especially when treating deeper concerns such as acne scarring or textured skin. This is a normal part of the process and indicates that the skin’s natural repair response has been activated. The amount of bleeding varies based on treatment depth and individual skin response, and it typically resolves quickly during the treatment.
-
Sensation varies by individual and treatment depth. A medical-grade numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to help keep you comfortable. Most clients describe the feeling as pressure, vibration, or mild scratching, and find the treatment very tolerable. Areas with thinner skin may feel more sensitive, and deeper treatments for concerns like acne scarring can feel more intense, but comfort is prioritized throughout the session.
-
After microneedling, the skin often feels very dry, tight, and dehydrated as it heals. We recommend using the Comfort Cream by GlyMed Plus, which is specifically formulated to support post-procedure skin. Unlike regular moisturizers, Comfort Cream contains hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and support the skin barrier, as well as aloe vera to soothe and calm sensitivity. This helps replenish moisture, reduce discomfort, and support proper healing following microneedling.
For cleansing, we also recommend the GlyMed Plus Creamy Cleanser, a gentle, hydrating cleanser designed for compromised or post-treatment skin. It helps cleanse without stripping the skin, supports the skin barrier, and keeps the skin comfortable during the healing phase.
Both Comfort Cream and GlyMed Plus Creamy Cleanser are available for purchase in-clinic to support optimal healing and results after your microneedling treatment.
-
Microneedling is not performed during pregnancy. However, microneedling may be performed while breastfeeding, as long as there are no contraindications and your skin is suitable for treatment. A consultation is required to ensure the treatment plan and aftercare products are appropriate.
-
Microneedling may not be suitable for clients who are pregnant, have active skin infections, open wounds, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, or active acne in the treatment area. It may also not be appropriate for those with a history of poor wound healing, keloid scarring, bleeding disorders, or those who have recently used certain medications (such as isotretinoin/Accutane within a recent timeframe). A consultation is required to review your medical history and ensure microneedling is safe for you.
-
We require a minimum waiting period of 6 months after completing Accutane (isotretinoin) before proceeding with microneedling. This allows the skin adequate time to recover and reduces the risk of delayed healing or complications. Suitability will be confirmed during your consultation.
-
If you have an active cold sore (HSV outbreak) in or near the treatment area, your appointment will need to be rescheduled until the area has fully healed. Treating over an active outbreak can increase the risk of spreading the virus and delay healing.
If you have a history of cold sores, preventative medication may be recommended prior to treatment to help reduce the risk of an outbreak. Please inform us in advance if you are prone to cold sores so we can advise you appropriately and determine if any precautions or modifications are needed before proceeding with treatment.
-
Yes, microneedling can be performed on stretch marks to help improve their appearance over time by supporting collagen production and skin renewal. While stretch marks cannot be completely removed, a series of treatments may help improve texture, firmness, and overall appearance of the treated area. Results vary by individual and treatment area, and your suitability will be assessed during consultation.
-
Microneedling is not performed over active breakouts or inflamed acne lesions, as treating over active acne can increase the risk of irritation, infection, and spreading bacteria. Blemishes and minor congestion are generally okay, and if there are only a few isolated pimples, we can safely work around those areas. However, if there are more than four active acne lesions on each side of the face, we recommend postponing microneedling until the skin has calmed and cleared. In these cases, we typically recommend chemical peels and a customized medical-grade skincare routine to help clear the skin first before proceeding with microneedling for best and safest results.
-
Yes, microneedling can be done in the summer with proper sun protection and aftercare. However, because the skin is more sensitive to UV exposure after treatment, it’s important to be diligent with sun avoidance and daily SPF use during the healing period. We recommend minimizing direct sun exposure, wearing protective clothing or hats when outdoors, and following all post-treatment care instructions to protect your results and reduce the risk of pigmentation.
-
Yes, microneedling can be suitable for sensitive skin when performed with appropriate settings and protocols. Treatment depth and technique can be adjusted to minimize irritation, and a thorough consultation is completed to assess your skin’s sensitivity and suitability. If your skin is highly reactive or currently irritated, we may recommend prepping the skin first or choosing alternative treatments to ensure the safest and most effective results.
-
Microneedling helps improve the appearance of acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven texture, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and overall skin tone and firmness. It supports collagen production, making it a great option for skin rejuvenation and texture concerns
